Happy New Year!

I wish everyone happiness and prosperity in 2005. I also hope everyone makes it home safe from their New Year's Eve parties. There is another reason tonight is special to me. It also marks my fourth knitting anniversary. Yes this party gal was sitting at home December 31, 2000 teaching herself how to knit. It was my New Year's Resolution, and I didn't want to waste any time getting started. I admit that I haven't give much thought to what my resolutions will be this year. I know for sure that I will resolve to learn something new. I'm not sure if it will be a new knitting technique or what. I would also like to exercise more and keep my house clean. These two were the resolutions I failed to keep last year, but I think I'll give it another shot. I have a new clean slate so there will be no dwelling on past failures darn it! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Oh yeah I almost forgot, Monday's entry will be the very first FaeryCrafty Show N' Tell Day. Make sure you check in to see the beautiful crafty stuff! See ya next year!

How About That!

Hi everybody! Guess what. I just found out that I was nominated and I am finalist for the category of Best Knitting/Craft Blog for the BoB Weblog Awards 2004. Well Holy Macarena! I surely never expected that. Thanks so much to whoever nominated me!! That put a big ole smile on my face :)

I finally got the buttons on the Origami Bag. I found the at Jo Ann Fabrics and Crafts earlier today. This thing has been just laying around forever without a button. It was one of those projects that I just wanted to knit even though I would never use it. It is going to go live with Rob's Aunt Connie. His sister Karyl saw the pattern and said, "Oh wow this is something Connie would like." I said, "Oh yeah? Well I already made it, and she can have it."  How cool is that.

Now you know I didn't just go in Jo Ann's and come out with only a couple of buttons. I also got some jade beads, sterling silver clasps, head pins, bell caps, and a ball of black fun fur. All of the jewelry making stuff was 40% off and I used a 40% off coupon for the yarn. Yippee!

I forgot to show you something that was Christmas related. I was on the phone with my mom one night after she had been putting up Christmas decorations in her yard. She was just a little freaked out over the directions for her Santa Clause. When she told me about it, I immediately told her to scan them and email them to me. Look for yourself! It is unbelievable. Is that not freaky?! Haha! Now is that a typo or someone playing a practical joke? My mom got so freaked out by it that she threw the directions in the trash can. I sure hope she remembers how to reassemble Satan oops I mean Santa again next year. Yikes!

On a much more serious note, if you would like to make a donation to help the millions of victims of the tsunami, msnbc.com compiled a list of organizations you can donate to. I found this link on Nanette's blog. Thanks Nanette! It sucks majorly that I even need to bring this up, but here it goes. Before you make a donation for a tragedy such as this, you want to make sure that it is a legitimate organization. Unfortunately, some evil people (I could think of a better term, but I'm trying to keep it clean) like to take advantage of a situation like this one and make money off of people. I imagine each organization on that list has been researched. However when in doubt, you can just donate to the Red Cross. You know that they are legitimate.

Christmas!

Christmas Past...

I thought it would be fun to share this picture with you. This is a picture of me when I was about three or four. Yes, I have always been quite the ham! My mom sent it to me a little while back, and I was surprised to remember every single one of the presents in the picture.

Christmas Present...

This was my first Christmas away from home, and I didn't think that I was going to be a very happy camper. Luckily Rob's mom, dad, and younger sister all came in town to his older sister's house, and I ended up getting to be with some family after all. For the first time in about a year I finally felt like I was home. I was especially excited to be able to give Rob's mom her present in person.

Do you think she liked it? She couldn't even speak for a minute. She just kept saying, "Oh, Oh, Oh!" Then she started crying and Rob's dad started crying. Heck, I almost started crying! This was the best reaction towards a gift that I have ever had in my life. She absolutely loved it, and I am so glad that I gave it to her. Rob's sister's were like, "Oh great Stacie now how the heck are we gonna top that! Kiss up!! The only way were are going to top that is if Amanda got pregnant!" Hahahaha! It was too good. After all the gift opening we had a yummy yummy Christmas dinner prepared with love by Rob's older sister Karyl.

I think Rob may have eaten a bit too much. We had a hard time getting his new gut behind the wheel to drive home. I almost had to drive! (As a little side note, that rug on the floor is a Christmas present I made Karyl about three years ago. I am pretty surprised how well it has held up. You gotta love that Caron acrylic. It's tough as nails!)

We spent the next evening at Rob's grandparent's house where I received my own big surprise. His whole family chipped in and bought me the french perfume I had been coveting for quite some time.  It is called L'Instant De Guerlain, and it has to be the most extraordinary smelling perfume I have ever smelled in my life! I had no clue that they were going to do that. It's too bad we didn't get a picture of my face, because I'm sure I made about the same expression as Rob's mom! Earlier in the day I had found out that my mom and sister were unable to come and visit me due to the weather, and this surprise cheered me up immensly. His family is so incredible. I couldn't ask for better.

Christmas Future...

There is now way to know what the future may hold. All I know Is that I look forward to spending all my Christmas futures with Rob and his family, and I am determined never to miss another one with mine. Next year all my Christmas gifts will be hand delivered.

Coming Soon!

A post all about Christmas will be coming soon. I still have to download the pictures and stuff. Since this was my first Christmas away from my family, I thought I was going to be all down in the dumps, but it turned out really great. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow night.

For now I would just like to say that I am praying hard for the millions of people that have had their lives torn apart by the tsunami that hit Asia. I read that 23,000 are dead so far. This is a number beyond my comprehension

Christmas Eve Eve

Have you ever been so sick that your eyelids hurt? Man I just hate the aches that come along with a cold/flu. Fortunately I am past all of that and have now moved on to feeling like my head is full of cotton. Oh the joys of a head cold! I don't really have a lot of knitting progress to report unfortunately. For some reason, I just haven't been up to knitting. I can't imagine why.

Actually I did fire off a garter stitch Fun Fur scarf after work yesterday as a Secret Santa gift. When She opens it up, it won't be a secret who I am anymore. I don't have a picture of the scarf unfortunately since I did this at work. If you ever want to make a present that flies right off the needles, grab two balls of fun fur, size 15 needles, cast on 20 stitches, and knit away. You will have a scarf in no time. It only took me about three hours to make a five foot long scarf. I knit continental since I wasn't concerned with gauge, and it increased my speed dramatically.

Speaking of scarves, I have 20 inches left on my sister's scarf, and I only have four days to finish it. She will be arriving here on Tuesday!!! She and my mom decided to come down here to see me before Lexie had to go back to school. I'm so excited! My initial excitement did, however, turn to panic when I realized that my house was a disaster, and I still have TWENTY INCHES LEFT on her scarf! Thankfully Rob is out of school. He may not be able to help me knit, but he sure can clean.

Thanks to everyone that wished me well. When your eyelids hurt it is nice to know that great people are out there thinking about you :) I hope everyone out there has a wonderful Christmas Eve Eve (if you don't celebrate Christmas have a wonderful evening) .  May one thousand Christmas Elves descend upon your homes to wrap presents and clean while you are sleeping. Oh yeah and may they lock up when they leave.

One Year Anniversary

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Today I am celebrating my blog's one year anniversary. Happy Anniversary Blog!!! I can't believe it has already been one year! It's been so much fun, and I have made a lot of new friends. To celibrate I am following my friend Bethany's lead and posting my own list of 100 Things About Me. I enjoy reading everyone else's list, so I thought it would be fun to make my own. Here it goes...

  1. I am very happily married.
  2. My husband and I were best friends in high school.
  3. We were living together as roommates (seperate rooms people lol) when he proposed. We had never even been on a date.
  4. We have been together for almost nine years now, and I know in my heart we will last forever.
  5. I don't have any children, well human ones anyways.
  6. I'm not sure that I want to have any.
  7. I'm turning 30 in January. I think my biological clock might be ticking, but I can't really hear it.
  8. My husband is a pilot. We moved to Florida so that he could go to flight school.
  9. I think pilots are sexy!!
  10. I have 18 piercings and one large tattoo on my lower back that I designed myself.
  11. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain.
  12. My husband doesn't have a single piercing or tattoo.
  13. He jokes and says that I'm a golf course. (Get it? 18 holes! Hahaha)
  14. My husband is sooo funny. (it's so hard to convey sarcasm through typing)
  15. My hair is down to my waist. It was past my waist, but I had my husband chop off four inches.
  16. I cut my hair short one time, and I cried for two days.
  17. I am very fair skinned, and I won't leave the house without sunscreen.
  18. I am so self concious about my fair skin that I will never wear shorts or short skirts. I don't want to blind people!
  19. My eyes are hazel (green and brown), but they always look brown in pictures.
  20. I am the worst liar in the world. Don't ever ask me a question unless you want the honest truth. Also it's probably not a good idea to make me your cover story. I'm the worst at lying when it is spontaneous and under pressure.
  21. I am a very open minded person. People come to me with their problems quite often, because they know that I will never judge them.  It's a good thing I'm a good secret keeper too, because I have some stooooooooories. Whew!
  22. I learned to crochet when I was about five years old.
  23. I taught myself to knit as a New Year's Resolution fulfillment, and I have been hooked since day one.
  24. The first thing I ever knit was a sweater for my nephew Devin.
  25. The sleeves were way too long, but I didn't care. We just rolled them up and he wore it anyways.
  26. After about 24 years of either knitting or crocheting, I have only made myself two things. This is going to change.
  27. My friend Janette taught me how to spin on a spindle a couple of months ago. She also showed me how to spin on a spinning wheel. I definitely prefer the spinning wheel to the spindle.
  28. I don't have a spinning wheel, but I plan to get one when money isn't quite so tight.
  29. I also enjoy beading, painting, and various other hobbies. I don't think there is a such thing as too many hobbies. Less is more? Bah!
  30. I teach knitting and crocheting at the craft store where I work. I just love enabling new craft addictions!
  31. I have a large family that includes three sisters (one I never met) and two brothers.
  32. Both of my brothers are in the military.
  33. One brother did two tours in Iraq and  was wounded. The other one is still serving there. He has only seen his new son once when he went on leave.
  34. I have six nephews, two nieces, and another on the way.
  35. I haven't seen my family in almost a year, and I miss them terribly. I can't wait until I am able to go home for a visit.
  36. I love getting scared!  Weird I know but maybe it's the adrenaline rush. I absolutely love horror movies and books, and I enjoy watching the "true" ghost story TV shows/documentaries. I especially love those shows where they lock people up in a haunted house with video cameras. I would love to be on one!
  37. My favorite movie is Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas which is based on a book written by Hunter S. Thompson.
  38. I hate cooking meals, but I love to bake pies, cakes, breads, etc.
  39. My husband says I make the best apple pie in the whole world. I hoping he isn't just biased :)
  40. I have cooked one meal since we moved into this apartment in Feb.
  41. My husband does all the cooking.
  42. I'm a lucky girl haha!
  43. The best job I ever had was being a bartender. I made a lot of money and my husband and I blew it traveling and having a great time. Maybe I should have saved it, but I had way too much fun spending it!
  44. I have been to over 30 Phish shows (stopped counting at thirty) and have followed them all the way up to the tippy top of Maine, twice.
  45. I'm an absolute sucker for animals.
  46. I once stopped traffic on a major highway to save a parakeet on the side of the road.
  47. I used to be the VP of a no-kill cat shelter back in VA, and I have had 9 foster kittens in my home at once.
  48. My sweety Zoe was found abandoned in a back yard, and I bottle fed her. I had to get up every two hours to feed her, and I was in the middle of exams. I think taking care of her kept my mind off the stress I was under, and I aced all of my exams. She was my little study buddy.
  49. Believe it or not I only have two cats right now.
  50. I only have two cats because my apartments only allow two pets.
  51. I don't eat red meat.
  52. I was a vegetarian most of my life, but now I will eat some fish and chicken.
  53. Sometimes I feel really guilty for eating them.
  54. I can't even squash a bug, but I will eat a chicken. What's that all about?? lol
  55. I loooooooove spicey food.
  56. Korean food is my absolute favorite! Sushi is a very close second.
  57. I used to be a weekly regular at a small Korean restaurant in VA., and the owner and I would sing Kareoke together.  I will most definitely be eating there when I go home to visit.
  58. My favorite restaurant here in Florida has a huge sushi buffet, and I always eat way to much when I go there.
  59. I never had a sweet tooth until I quit smoking. I think I traded one addiction for another.
  60. Chocolate seems to be my drug of choice at the moment.
  61. I began talking when I was six months old.
  62. By the time I was a year old I was speaking in full sentences.
  63. My friends lovingly (yeah right haha) tell me that explains a lot. I don't know what they are talking about!
  64. My earliest memory in life is my second birthday party. I was given a slinky that I got terribly tangled and one of my aunts was helping me fix it.
  65. I can remember my second birthday, my 9th grade boyfriend's phone number, all the lines to Groundhog Day, several poems I had to memorize in high school, etc but I can't remember where I put my keys or if I locked the door when I left the house!
  66. I have serious scatter brain moments.
  67. I have never taken a sip of beer in my entire life. I always thought it stunk too bad to try it.
  68. This is the first time I have ever lived outside of VA, and I am having a hard time adjusting.
  69. I have never traveled outside of the US, but I was really darn close to Canada once!
  70. I am still driving the same car I bought when I graduated in 1993. It sure looked good back then! Now it is quite beat up after two wrecks, and it has over 200,000 miles on it. At least it gets me where I am going.
  71. I have a hard time getting rid of things, but I am trying to work on that. I have become inspired by the show Clean Sweep. I wish they would come to my house!
  72. I am ashamed to admit this, but I have over 100 tubes of lipsticks and that's not counting the ones that are MIA.
  73. The only makeup I wear is lipstick.
  74. I love lipstick haha!
  75. I have a ton of yarn, and I can't seem to make myself stop buying it!
  76. When we moved in to our new apartment it took several trips to get my stash in the house. My Sister-in-Law was just a little surprised! haha!
  77. I was diagnosed with OCD a couple of years ago, but I keep it under control enough to  remain a functioning human being without meds.
  78. My main fear is germs. It drives my husband batty sometimes, but he is a good sport and carries the darn hand sanitizer!
  79. My biggest pet peeve in the world is when people lick their fingers before turning a page or counting money. Ewwwww!
  80. I never ever use public restrooms unless I don't think I can make it home. Yuck!
  81. I am a perfectionist. I think this probably drives my husband crazier than the OCD.
  82. I have somewhat of a low self-esteem and I am super hard on myself. Couple this with being a perfectionist and you can see why it drives my husband nuts.
  83. I am super indecisive. Well, that is what Rob always says. I would like to think that I just like making reaaaaaaaaally informed decisions!
  84. I have really good work ethics. I can count on one hand the times I have been late or called in sick for at least five years maybe more. I learned this from my mother who works harder than anyone I know.
  85. I have a very short fuse. My sister Misti bought me a keychain that says, "Caution I go from 0 to B#$%! in 3.5 seconds." I just love her.
  86. I am a complete goofball. It isn't uncommon for me to break out in a song or dance in the middle of the grocery store or do something equally embarrassing (not for me I love making an A out of myself ) in public. God forbid you get me and Misti together. You are bound for trouble. My husband has become oblivious to my antics after 9 years. Haha!
  87. I love all types of music. I have a large variety of CD's that range from Bach to Eminem. You should have seen the look on the cashiers face when I set them both down on the counter. She got a little chuckle out of it.
  88. I love to sing. I am a 1st Soprano, but I can sing Alto as well. I have a pretty decent range.
  89. I was in a Chamber Madrigal Choir in High School. We did a great deal of traveling and won many of awards. We even sang on PBS a few times during the Christmas Holidays.
  90. I really miss performing. Now I just sing in the car and the shower!
  91. I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano and the violin, and I will before I die.
  92. I also want to learn how to speak French.
  93. I am currently learning relearning Spanish, and I practice it with a couple of girls at work that speak it fluently.
  94. I should already be fluent since I took at least six years of it in school. but I have forgotten most of it after not speaking it in over three years.
  95. I try to learn something new every year as a part of my New Year's Resolution. It sure is a lot easier to keep than most.
  96. I have a 4.0 GPA in college but no degree yet :(
  97. I am working to put my husband through flight school and when he is hired by an airline I will be able to go back. I can't wait!
  98. I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up.
  99. Lottery winner ranks high on my list of what I want to be when I grow up!
  100. List maker probably ranks last!
There you have it. That's probably more than you ever wanted to know about me! I can't believe how hard it was to come up with so many things about myself. You would think it would be easy since I have lived with me every day for darn near thirty years.

I would also like to celebrate by kicking off a new idea for my blog. I am planning on having a show and tell day each week. On "Show N' Tell Day" I will feature a crafts that different people have made, and the crafter can write the entry if they want. I think it will be fun to see all the different things people make, and it will give people that don't have their own blog or website the opportunity to strut their stuff. Does this sound like fun to you? If any of you out there would like to be included in "Show N' Tell Day" use the "Contact Me" link on the sidebar and let me know.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I plan on getting some serious cleaning and knitting done. In a perfect world I would have a completed Cherry scarf by Monday. We'll see what happens. See you all on Monday!

    Long Day

Work is absolutely killing me. It is 12:22 and I am finally home after working all day. Believe it or not I have to be back there at 6am. I will be so incredibly happy when Christmas is over and things slow down. Needless to say I didn't get any knitting done today. What I would like to do is show you an ornament that my mom cross stitched for my brother Nick in Iraq.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Isn't that cute? Santa is in desert camouflage. I think that Nick is going to love it. It is always nice when people make you things from the heart. We all sent him Christmas presents and hope that they will make his day a little brighter when he opens them. His wife is holding off on celebrating Christmas until he gets home. I don't blame her one bit.

Well that's it for tonight friends. I'm sorry for the short post but I have to get what little sleep in that I can. I get off at two tomorrow, and I plan to do some serious knitting on that scarf. Even though I probably won't get it to her before Christmas, I want to at least have it shipped before then. Better late than never right? Have a great day everyone. Hooray for Friday!!!

    :)

I have some really great news! Rob is now a certified Flight Instructor!! This rating was by far the hardest one he's had so far, and I am beyond proud of him for completing it. In fact, Webster needs to come up with a new word to describe how I feel! We went out to our favorite restaurant to celebrate and stuffed ourselves on sushi and desert. He still has to get certified to be and Instrument Rating instructor, but it will be two weeks before he starts that new rating. He is welcoming the much needed break. Wooohoooo Happy Dancin For Rob!

My sister Misti sent me some pictures of my neice and nephew yesterday and I thought that I would share some of them with you. Am I biased when I say that they are the cutest kids on the face of the earth? I mean take a look at my nephew...

How can you resist that smile and those big blue eyes? It's impossible I tell you. He even looks cute like THIS!

Talk about a bad hair day. It looks he just stuck his finger in a light socket! Haha! Rob's woken up like this quite a few times. It also looks like he was just diggin' into some chocolate too. Speaking of chocolate, here is a picture of Lexie and Devin on Halloween.

This picture is so sweet it makes my teeth hurt! Lexie is absolutely gorgeous in her princess costume, and Devin is so precious as Winnie the Pooh. I'm sure these two scored tons of candy looking so great.  I wish I could have been there.

So there you have my totally unadulterated unapologetic non-knitting content. I was just so happy for Rob that I had to share the news with you. I figured while I was at it I would show off the kiddos. Have a great day everyone!

    Moving Along

I had today off so I got quite a bit of knitting done on Cherry (Misti's Scarf) Luna tells me that it is now 29 inches long.

I'm halfway there! Speaking of Luna, I thought I would share a little conversation about her that took place between my husband and I.

Me: Hey Rob I named the little Sheep thingy.
Rob: Yeah? What did you name it?
Me: I named her Luna. Isn't that cute?
Rob: Oh wow you named her after you?!
    Me: Huh?
Rob: Isn't Luna short for Lunatic?

There was a bit more to this conversation but for the sake of keeping this a nice clean blog, I am stopping right there Haha! As punishment I decided to make him model Hot Stuff. You must go and see. Think that will teach him??? On a serious note, here is a close up of the beads on the fringe...

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I'm also happy with how this picture actually shows off the sparkles. It really is a beautiful yarn, and I think my grandma is going to love it!

    Friday

I had some fun hunting beads with my Grandma today. First we stopped by an antique shop in a beautiful pink Victorian House after spotting a sign that said, "Beads Here". They just started carrying beads and offering classes. We were talking to the lady that teaches beading and I mentioned that I taught knitting. She immediately asked me for my phone number and said she is very interested in me teaching there! Too cool! She also said that she would love to make a "trade". I'll teach her to knit and she'll teach me some advanced beading techniques. How exciting is that!?

After we left that store we went to yet another beading shop. When one of the employes found out that I can do macrame jewelry she just lit up! It turns out that they have been searching for someone to teach macrame jewelry classes after several customers expressed interest. She also asked for my number, and asked for me to bring some of my jewelry in on a Saturday. Wow! Putting your husband through flight school is incredibly expensive, so I could definitely use the extra cash.

Well it's time for bed. I have to work in the morning. I will be putting the beads we found on the scarf this weekend, and I'll have pictures for you on Monday. I hope you all have a great weekend. Unfortunately I have to work. I'm off on Monday though, and I'll see you then :)

    Whew!

This scarf is coming along very slowly, and I doubt very seriously that I'll have it done in time for Christmas. Here is a picture of Luna ( Look Diane I finally named her) measuring the scarf at a big whopping 11 inches!

I know that isn't much progress, but my hands have kinda been achey lately and it seems to be slowing me down a bit. I know I know waaaa! I read some great advice on the Knitlist about how long a scarf should be. Someone said that if you make the scarf as long as the person is tall then it will be the perfect length. Lucky for me my sister is only 4'11" hehe!

Do you think I will go out of my mind after 59 inches of Stockinette? Nah! This is nice and easy knitting. I don't even have to look at my hands! That means I can read a book or watch tv with no problem. You almost forget you are even knitting. I took it to Chili's with me yesterday and worked on it while we were waiting for our food.

    Another One

First of all I would like to say Happy Chanukah!! to all of my Jewish friends :) I had a pretty decent time at work today. Actually work kinda stunk(I can't wait for the holidays to be over!!), but afterward was great. A friend of mine that I work with has wanted to learn to knit for quite some time, but she has always been working during my classes. Today we both got off at 4pm, so we decided to have a private lesson in the break room. I have taught a lot of people to knit, and I can usually tell after the first few rows if the person gets it or not. Some people are just naturals, and some have a really hard time wrapping their head around the whole concept. There are the ones that turn to stone when they get the needles in their hands, and there are people that freak out when they can't get it right immediately. For the stone people I say, "Knitting has been described as "The New Yoga", now would you do yoga like this?(insert me doing very stiff movements with clinched teeth and a strained look on my face. Silly but it gets the point across) That doesn't look very relaxing does it? Now take a deep breath, shake your hands out, and lets try again." For the ones freaking out I usually say,"Remember this is supposed to be fun! You aren't knitting to save a life or knitting to solve world hunger. The cure to all the known diseases is not on your shoulders! Relax and have fun :)" Both of these little speeches usually get chuckles and tend to do the trick. I have also been known to bribe a few with chocolate heehee! I didn't have to give any of my speeches today. She was an excellent student and such a fast learner. I have to say she is one of the naturals, and I am happy to announce that I have bagged us another one folks!! Yay Kimberly! Welcome to the fold!

    What I've Been Up To

I wanted to show everyone what I have been up to the last couple of days. I have been working on my sister Misti's Christmas present. For many years now she has been an utter cherry fanatic. Her entire kitchen is decorated in cherries, and she buys almost everything she sees that has cherries on it. With this in mind, I decided to design her a scarf and hat set embellished with, you guessed it, cherries.

I wanted it to be black to match her leather jacket, and I didn't want to use bright crayon red and green. Instead, I chose a very pretty burgandy and forest green color. I wanted the scarf to be stockinette, but I didn't want to worry about it rolling up. I also didn't want to put a garter stitch border on it to remedy the roll. This prompted me to knit the scarf in the round. The combo of knitting in the round and intarsia created a little difficulty, so I opted to take the easy route and use the  duplicate stitch instead. Some may call this cheating, but I will call this maintaing the sanity. I charted out the cherries, knit untill I had enough space to stitch the cherries, and voila!

Here is the beginning of a scarf that is guaranteed to make my sister freak, and I can't wait to give it to her!! I just wish I could be there in person to see her face when she opens it. I will demand that she at least wait until we are on the phone together to open it. I'm glad she doesn't read my blog! I would hate for the surprise to be spoiled. I just couldn't wait to show everyone! Please give me your honest oppinion of what you think.

I am knitting on size ten circulars with a pretty bulky worsted weight yarn, so this shouldn't take an incredibly long time to knit. I want it to be pretty long however, so it may not get finished by Christmas. She has been warned this and told that it will be worth the wait :) Rob is getting out of the stresses of Christmas as usual, but I did have him help me ball the yarn...

Why is my husband a such a dork?? Pity me people. Pity me.

    Stash Enhancement

Looky what the mailman brought me! Don't you just love getting packages like this!?

That is ten balls of GGH Java in Light Green (46) made in Germany. Remember this entry? I bought this yarn so that I could make the Apricot Jacket in this issue. I took the picture outside in attempt to get an accurate representation of the color, but I didn't. As a matter of fact I couldn't get the right color no matter what I tried. It is a more vibrant green and not quite as muted as it appears. I am a little nervous about wearing this color because I usually tend to wear more subtle ones. My husband says that he thinks it will look great on me and that I should stop being silly. We'll see. Check out this cutey Patooty!

It's a sheep tape measure created by Lantern Moon. Click on the picture to see what happens when you pull the sheep's tail. Is that not cute?? It poops tape hahaha! I know that I didn't need this but I just had to have it. My husband just shook his head, chuckled, and said now don't you lose this one! Oh he knows me too well.

Well it's time for me to head to work. Have a great day everyone! I hope you all get fun stuff in your mailboxes too!

    Hot Stuff

Well the Hot Stuff scarf is just about finished. I have decided to put beads on the fringe, and now I just need to find the right ones. Things were way too crazy at work today to look for any, and I don't have any in my bead stash that match. Here is a close up picture of it so that you can get a good look at the color.

The little iridescent metallic flecks don't really show up, but the color is represented perfectly. At least it is on my monitor. Isn't it beautiful. I think this scarf will be perfect for Christmas. Hopefully I'll be able to find some beads at work tomorrow, so that I can actually finish it.

I added a few more links to the sweater pattern list last night making a whopping 269 links. I wonder just how many I will end up finding. I have also been working on the links over on my side bar. I am trying to make it more organized. What do you think of it so far?

Well it's about 4am and I have officially stayed up way to late yet again. It's a darn good thing I don't have to be at work until 2:30 tomorrow. Have a great Thursday and don't forget to tape Will and Grace for me!

    Stuff

I didn't think to include all the information for the cardigan I started in yesterdays post, so I figure I would do that tonight. I needed something to post about anyways, and I'm too tired to think. Haha! It is located on page 81 of The Yarn Girls' Guide to Simple Knits, and it is called The Problem Solver. It is knit holding one strand of Crystal Palace Chenille and two strands of Classic Elite Flame. The gauge is 2 1/2 stitches to the inch. This pattern would be just right for a beginner, and I think the only difficult thing would be attaching the zipper.

I should have pictures of the Hot Stuff Scarf tomorrow night if I finally decide how I want to do the fringe or if I even want to do it. I am so totally indecisive. I think I may dig through my bead stash and see if I can find something that will match the colors in the scarf. We shall see :)

    Quick Post

As you may know, I work in a craft store. Today was the insane day after Thanksgiving shopping day, so I'm pooped! This entry is going to be a short one, but I will be back on Monday with some pictures of sneaky knitting and the Hot Stuff scarf. I'm too tired to take pictures right now. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting a gallery of my finished projects. So far I only have the Fair Isle Bag in it, but I will be adding projects as often as I can. It will include the information on what yarn I used, pattern info, comments, and start and finish date. Here is the link for the bag. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I had a wonderful time with Rob's family. Have a wonderful weekend and see you on Monday!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope that you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'll be spending mine at my husband's aunt and uncle's house. I'm a little sad because this is the first Thanksgiving that I have ever spent away from my family. I just have to keep remembering all the things that I am thankful for and keep a smile on my face :)

    1. I am thankful for my wonderful husband. He has stuck with my through thick and thin and puts up with all my BS. He is extremely supportive in everything I do including my fiber obsessions. He even goes to yarn shops and guild meetings with me. I love him more than words can say, and I couldn't think of a better person to grow old with. He is without a doubt my best friend in the whole world.
    2. I am thankful for my family. Even though they are miles and miles away they'll be in my heart tomorrow. My brother Nick is stuck in Iraq, and I know he wishes he could be home.  Send some Happy Thanksgiving thoughts his way.
    3. I am thankful for my friends the ones I left behind (I miss you so much!!) and the ones newly made. I have some really special people in my life, and I consider myself extremely lucky.
    4. I am thankful for my furbabies. I know that may sound silly, but they really help to keep me sane. If I have a bad day, I can just cuddle up with one of them and I feel much better. Zoe appeared during a really hard time in my life, and focusing on caring for her (bottles every two hours and more!) kept my mind off of my troubles. I don't know what I would do without her.
    5. I am thankful that my brother Chris made it out of Iraq alive. The bullet that went through his legs missed his main artery by about 1/4 of an inch. He had an angel on his shoulder for sure! Not only did he make it out alive he saved everyone in the truck with him. He is a hero!
    6. I am thankful for my apartment with the crazy loud downstairs neighbors, the food in my fridge, clothes on my back, and the shoes on my feet. They may be too small, generics, hand me downs, and/or worn out, but they still do the job!
    7. I am thankful for my beat up old car. Even though it isn't pretty anymore, it gets me from A to B. It has been a very good car, and I have had little (other than aesthetics) problems with it.
    8. I am thankful that my husband is getting a good education so that one day I'll be able to get a new car, new shoes, new clothes, and a bigger home!! Haha!
    9. I am thankful for my health and my family's health, and I am so thankful that my husband lands on the ground safe and sound every day.
    10. I am thankful for knitting, crocheting, beading, spinning, etc, and my ever growing stash! Some people can barely buy food, so I know that it is a luxury for me to have these things. Knitting is the reason I have such incredible friends here in Florida. I would have never met them without it :) I have also met some really great people through my knitting blog and I am thankful for them too. Speaking of which, thanks so much for all of the wonderful comments about my FI bag. You made me smile!
    11. Lastly I am thankful for all the things that I am forgetting to be thankful for! I know that I should have a longer list but it is 1am and I can't think of anything else. Oh yeah I can think of one more! Chocolate! I am thankful for Chocolate!

    Here It Is!!

What do you think? You can click on the image for a larger view. You would not believe what I had to go through to get a decent picture of this thing! The lighting inside my apartment stinks! I would just like to say thanks for all the kind words and encouragement while I was knitting this bag. Keep your fingers crossed that the recipient will love it. I may just have to sneak it away from her otherwise :P

    Pictures Pictures Pictures!

I had a great time Saturday with the girls. The battery died on my camara, but Dale came to the rescue. Armed with here handy dandy cell phone she took a few pictures for ya. Thanks Dale!

That is a shot of Janette and I weaving in all the ends on the bag. Thanks Janette :) Rob you got so lucky! Believe it or not, it didn't take us very long to get it done.

Here are all of the leftover scraps of yarn after we finished weaving. Doesn't look that impressive?

Dale took a picture next her coffee cup for scale. It was a pretty good sized pile of scraps. Rhonda immediately scooped them up for a surprise. Speaking of Rhonda....

Did I ever tell you she is one talented woman? One of her other loves is Polymer clay, and she makes some incredible things with it. This is the best picture we could get with the cell phone, but you can still tell that her stuff is beautiful. Here is another shot...

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I plan on getting more pictures of her stuff when I get my battery. Actually I will probably be bringing my camera along with me to knitting more often. I would love to share all the wonderful things my talented friends create! Did I finish the bag??? Well I can't give it ALL away in one entry now can I?

    Blocking

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Here is the bag blocking on my living room floor. You can click on the image above for the super big picture if you want (Dial Up Beware), and check out the stitches up close. I think they are pretty even. If they aren't, oh well I am not froggin a darn thing! Anyways, I think I did pretty darn good for my very first Fair Isle attempt :) Zoe sure seems to like it...

I can't keep her off of it, and I'm worried she's gonna end up with a pin in her butt! I had to finally just cover it with a heavy blanket. I'm sure that anyone who has pets can completely relate to this. I will just take it as a compliment. Tomorrow I will be going to my knitting group and having an end weaving party. Photos will follow.

Are you sick of this project yet?? The plans are in the works for the next one. Remember this? I am swatching it as we speak.

    Yahoooo!!

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The knitting is all done, but as you see I still have to finish blocking it. I just got off of work, it's after midnight and I have to be up at 7. I don't think the blocking is going to get done tonight. I am planning on doing it after I get off work tomorrow. I want it all blocked so that I can take it to my knitting group on Saturday. Janette said she will help me weave in some of the ends. That way Rob will get a bit of a break. I'm off to bed. I'll post blocking pictures tomorrow.

    So Close But So Tired!

Ok it's 2am, and I am 10 rows away from finishing this bag. Unfortunately, I can barely keep my eyes open, so I'm gonna have to go to bed. I'll finish it when I get up in the morning. I don't have to be at work until 2:30 so I shouldn't have a problem finishing it before I leave. Woohoo I can't believe it's almost done. Well it's only going to be partly done. There will be ends to weave, blocking, sides to sew, and a strap to make. I'm hoping for it to be completely finished by the end of the weekend. Friday would be perfect so that I can bring it to my knitting group on Saturday for show and tell.

    Hot Diggety!

I only have 22 rows left of the Fair Isle Bag. It's moving along pretty fast now. I was able to work on it quite a bit today since it was my day off. Here is a picture of the progress.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Sorry about the ugly picture. The stockinette is curling up badly and there are 20,000 ends that need to be weaved in hiding under it. I don't think Rob knew what he was getting himself into when he agreed to weave them for me. Muhahahahaha!

    PS
I also worked on the Sweater Pattern List today, and I now have 191 links!

    Keep On Keepin' On

I completed the main chart on the bag after work today. (Thanks so much for the compliments) That means I only have 38 more rows left! That's totally managable. I am going to have lots of time to work on it tomorrow, and I'll post pictures of the progress tomorrow evening. I need to hunt some more sweater patterns too. Right now my eyelids are getting very heavy, so I'm gonna go get my butt in bed. See you tomorrow. Have a wonderful day :)

    Ouuuuch!

I was incapable of blogging, knitting, sitting up, or anything last night after work. Unfortunately when I arrived home  I was accompanied by a blinding migraine. Have you ever suffered from one of those? They are no picnic I tell you what. Mine start out by making me dizzy then slowly but surely my brain begins to split. I become nauseous, and yesterday I was seeing spots!  The only thing I can do is take something and lay down in a dark room. Thank God I don't get these very often. I think I would go insane.

Speaking of insane, Christmas is in FOURTY DAYS! How did it sneak up so fast? Is it the warm weather fooling me? Is it denial?  Whatever the heck it is I have a bag to finish for my mother in law, a hat and scarf for my sister, an Eeyore for my nephew, and the list goes on! Can you say impossible?

So now what? How is it possible to finish in time? Unless, I magically sprout another set of hands, I'll never finish on time. My good friend Janette had a great idea to help take some of my anxiety away. You simply figure out aproximately how many rows you have left of the project so you know how many you need to knit a night. I have 68 rows left on my Fairisle Bag. I could finish it in two weeks if I knit five rows a day. That realization makes me want to kick myself in the butt for not finishing it already. I guess I ought to cut myself a break since I work full time and teach at the store. I don't have a ton of free time.

Enough excuses! I'm going to get this bag finished in less than 2 weeks if it kills me! Tonight I knit seven rows which puts me ahead of schedule. Here is the progress so far. Go Stacie Go!!

And here is a close up of the bottom of the bag.

    Oops!

I wanted to add more to my last entry and removed it instead of just editing it. I didn't think about losing the comments. Duh! Sorry if I deleted your comments.

    TGIF

I'm off today! I won't get to meet with the girls tomorrow and knit, but I am excited about having a day off. I have decided that my new own personal hell is retail during the holidays and I must be getting punished for some past transgressions. Lord please deliver me from evil! I'm sorry!! Haha! I just run into the nicest people during their Christmas and Thanksgiving shopping crazes. I was told yesterday,by a very lovely lady, that if we ran out of a certain item then we should not be allowed to have it in our floral displays anymore. Oh shall we rip it down on Sunday and put it back up on Monday when it comes in?? Let me hop right on that ma'am! Sheesh! Wait this is a knitting blog....

I am going to use my much needed day off to work on the Fairisle Bag. I have dilly dallied (haven't used that phrase in a long time) long enough on it, and I need to get on the ball. All around me in blog land FO's are flying off the needles, and I'm stuck here in WIP land. How am I ever going to be able to play with all my new toys if I don't finish up these projects. So no messing around today. I'm going to put a serious dent in that bag if it kills me. I shouldn't even be typing thi

    Rebecca Magazine

I have had a couple of questions about the Rebecca Magazines, so I'll try to answer them as best as I can. Up until recently, the magazine is originally written in German and has English translations printed up along with it. You aren't able to buy the magazine directly from the Rebecca online shop. It is completely in German and only sells to Germany, but there are different distributers you can buy it from in the US. Rebecca started offering their magazine published entirely in English starting with issue 28, and it is being sold in the US, UK, and Canada. One American distributer is Muench Yarns. Click Here to see a list of their retailers in each state. It may be coming to a yarn shop near you!

As for the ease of the patterns, I really couldn't tell you since I haven't knit anything from it yet. I can't say that I have ever payed attention to the difficulty of a pattern anyways. If I like it, I knit it. Even if there are things in there that I may not be able to do, I know that I will be able to learn how through books, the internet, or friends. My motto has always been Go For It! I don't consider myself an expert knitter in any way. I just always try to challenge myself and learn new things. What is the worst that could happen? If you mess up, just frog away. That is the beauty of knitting :) Well it's one of the beauties anyways.

I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to ask away if I missed anything. I don't mind at all. Also you can visit the Rebecca website to learn more if you like. They even have a few free patterns. Just be sure to select English up at the left corner of the page.

    I love the mail man...

cause he brings me stuff! Here are my two latest acquisitions. You will notice that they are accompanied by my husbands big ole feet. He decided that it was a perfect opportunity to show off a pair of socks that I knit him. Unfortunately, the color didn't showing up very well. They are actually a very pretty green.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I knit the socks with Wool Ease on two circular needles, my weapons of choice. They are super warm, so he may not get much use out of them in this climate. Now for my goodies...

On the left is Reynolds Saucy color 960. The shade is actually lighter (my lighting stinks!)than it appears in the picture. It is a 100% mercernized cotton made in Brazil.

On the right with my husband's stinky feet sitting on it is the Rebecca 27 magazine I ordered after seeing it on other people's. tell you what, reading other people's blogs is dangerous. I wonder if I am causing someone to run for their credit card with this entry!

Goodness Gracious Great Balls Of Fiber!!

I didn't manage to get as much done the last couple of days as I planned. I did manage to start the organizing of the sweater links, and I added some of the links that Cathy sent me. Thanks again :) Also thanks to Jenn and anyone else that provided links. I hope I am not forgetting anyone.

I am happy to report that my house is much cleaner, and I organized some of my stash. You did notice that I said some didn't you. LOL! My stash has reached historical proportions(for me anyways), and my husband has been searching the yellow pages for Fiberholics Anonymous! Here is a picture of the yarn I was able to get into my cedar chest.

Goodness Gracious Great Balls Of Fiber!!

This does not include the huge clear plastic bag (the kind you use for leaves) full of yarn leftovers I can't make myself get rid of, the drawer full of kitchen cotton, the large shopping bag full of yarn, and the ummm five (or more?) other regular size bags that I couldn't get in the chest! (It's not a small one either. Too bad I didn't get Rob to snap a picture of my climbing in it) I made sure to stash all of my wool and natural fibers in here to protect them from bugs. I think that it is safe to say that I need to be on a yarn diet!

Not Enough Time In The Day

There really isn't. I am going to take a couple of days off from blogging, so that I can do some updates on my link lists. Thanks to everyone who has provided links. It is a lot of help, and I need all I can get haha!  I will leave you with a picture of Andrea's cutey patootey Lucky. Thanks for sharing with us Andrea :) I promise some fiber related photos in the near future. Take care everybody. I'll be back on Monday.

    Short One

I had a very long day at work today that started at 5am this morning. Needless to say at 10pm I'm pretty pooped. This is definitely going to be another one of my short posts, and I appologize. I did want to pop in to tell everyone to get out there and vote vote vote. I don't care who ya vote for just go vote :)

I thought I would give you something cute to look at. This is a picture of Zoe when she was very little and her big brother Keagen. Can you believe such a big dog could be so gentle with such a small kitten? One day I'll get some actual knitting time in so that I can post some darn project pictures. Take care everybody and get to those polls!

    Growing

The list of sweater patterns is growing slowly but surely, and I'll be adding to it daily. I'm have only scratched the surface of the bookmarks I have collected. Just keep checking back, or enter in your email address for notifications.

    Free Sweater Links

Ok here is my list so far. It is no where near done. As before, I have no affiliation with any of the sites and probably have not researched them beyond the page on which the pattern is located. Just like my poncho list, I'll be adding them as I find them. If you see a link I don't have, you can leave it in comments. Any help is totally appreciated. Enjoy!
